Just maybe

That there is widespread debate about wearing masks in solidarity during a devastating pandemic.

That guns flow freer than driver licenses.

That work and dominance are considered core values while balance and empathy are panned as weak.

That the wealth gap has more than doubled since the days of Reagan.

That it ranks first in school shootings and far from first in education.

That experts are disregarded while the opinionated are revered.

That The New York Times is labeled “fake” while Fox is where millions get their “news”.

That a Black President was delegitimized for the color of his skin and a Woman President is out of reach.

That 63 million people chose a con in plain sight as their leader.

That truth is now debatable.

That the world can no longer rely on its goodness or goodwill.

That some will read this and dismiss it as political rather than factual.

With all of this, we must ask ourselves if maybe, just maybe, the days of the United States of America as the shining city upon a hill are behind it.
